About the event
In 1753 the philosopher, theorist and composer Jean-Jacques Rousseau penned his 'Lettre sur la musique française', in which he launches a scathing attack on French music of the time. He bemoans the French mode of composition, their style of singing and their playing, complaining of the 'aboiement continuel' ("continual squealing") that afflicts their music. Endelienta Baroque explore the vocal and instrumental music that found itself in the crosshairs of Rousseau's discourse, and, in doing so, compile a stirring case for the defence of the music so scorned by Rousseau.
